Ex Lats & Ex Mancs had long since mixed on and off the pitch with a few even able to call themselves part of the rich history of both establishments. Ex Lats & Ex Mancs had combined to notorious fashion to form the multi-title winning 5 a side team Woolton Rovers but they had never opposed. In 2011 a football tradition was born.
The Inaugural encounter between the two sides was played in the driving rain at the Richardson Evans Memorial Ground in Roehampton. The weather did nothing to dampen the appetites of the two sides, both teams desperate to claim the bragging rights of the first ever Ex Lats vs Ex Mancs title.
After a fiercely contested opening it was the Ex Mancs who took the lead. Jack Scott hauled Nick Milne down in the area for a stone wall penalty. Milne dusted himself down to dispatch the spot kick for the lead.
The goal only woke the Lats up and minutes later they were level after being awarded a spot kick of their own. James Gibbons the offender this time and like Milne, the man fouled Q-W stepped up to score the resulting penalty.
The Ex Mancs hit back though and Ahmad finished powerfully after being released down the right wing. The game was constantly back and forth and the Ex Lats regained the upper hand after a fine solo goal from Holmes and a close range finish from Q-W. 3-2 to the Ex Lats at half time.
Half time however was the turning point. The Ex Mancs came out fired up for the second half determined to overturn the scoreline. They did just that through a slice of fortune as Bugeja deflected a wayward shot to level the score.
The Ex Mancs were in the ascendancy but the winning goal came from an unlikely source. The Ex Lats were defending desperately and when the ball broke to right back Leo Todd he could hardly believe his luck as he slotted home for 4-3 to seal the first ever Ex Lats vs Ex Mancs title.
