As the end of the season draws near Fans, Players and Managers alike all cast their eye to the showcase finale, "the big one" el superclassico". That's right it's the one they've all been waiting for, training hard all year and going the extra mile for, its Ex Mancs Vs Ex Lats II.
With last years unforgettable 4-3 encounter fresh in the mind, this seasons clash had a lot to live up to. Both teams' squads remain fairly in tact with the Ex Mancs handing a debut to Danny McShane while the Ex Lats were delighted that Tom Mikkelsen didn't have anything better to do on the day....which is so often the case. Ex Mancs though will be hampered by the sale of Ash Nicholls to Bulgarian A group side Lokomotiv Plovdiv, where he is by far the largest player.
With the Ex Mancs taking the first ever title in the inaugural season in 2011, the Ex Lats were desperate not to fall further behind in the series and started with real intent. Barely 10 mins were on the clock when Aked crossed low for Q-W to tap home for 1-0.
No more goals followed in the first half but a cagey affair exploded into life in the second. The Ex Mancs hit back with goals from the Joneses, a fine header from Wil and a powerful drive from Gazz. The match now turned around at 2-1.
The Ex Lats needed a response and they got it through Winter's low drive from the edge of the box. Quelch-Woolls then added a 20 yard free-kick to turn the game back in the Ex Lats favour at 3-2.
The Ex Mancs were pushing for the equaliser but got caught cold on the break as Winter acrobatically hooked in his second for 4-2. Bugeja pulled a goal back for the Ex Lats to ensure a tense finish but the Ex Lats held on to secure a 4-3 win and level the series.
